A committee from Bengaluru Urban district health office on Tuesday detected violations of Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques Act in three private medical establishments. While all the three have been slapped with notices, one of them was closed down and sealed. Three people, including the wife of a doctor, were on Thursday arrested by the Kolhapur police in connection with illegal sex determination racket that was busted last month. Police on Wednesday raided a private hospital in Ichalkaranji and detained a doctor over suspicion that he was involved in carrying out illegal sex determination and abortions. The Palamu administration has sounded an alert over the skewed gender ratio in the district and asked officials to check if ultrasound clinics are carrying out illegal sex determination tests. The Karveer police have arrested Rani Kamble, 45, in connection with the illegal sex determination case. An FIR has been registered against seven people for allegedly being involved in illegal sex determination testing at a rented property in Parite village, around 20 km from Kolhapur city. Of then seven accused, five have been arrested. An ultrasound clinic here run by a woman doctor for over five years was sealed on Wednesday evening for allegedly conducting sex determination test on pregnant women to ascertain sex of the fetus. Police were in the process of registering an FIR against three persons, including the doctor-owner of the clinic.
